Nick Scott is a writer, brewery owner, and lifelong resident of the Maumee River valley in northwest Ohio. He founded Wild Side Brewing in Grand Rapids, Ohio, and has spent the years since watching a small canal town turn into the setting for everything he writes.
He's a father and a husband first, and most of what ends up on the page started as something he noticed while working — behind the bar, on the water, or at his own kitchen table. The Last Saturday is his debut, published under his personal imprint, Lock 44 Press, named for the historic canal lock in Providence Metropark just down the towpath from the brewery.
In 2026, he founded the Maumee River Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the natural, cultural, and human heritage of the Maumee River and western Lake Erie watershed — because a place is only worth loving if someone's paying attention to it.
Grand Rapids is a small town. Which is another way of saying everyone eventually becomes part of everyone else's story.
